  • 3 sheets to the wind???

From the beginning of wedding planning we knew we would be having an open bar.  We also knew that because our venue is the backyard of a private home that we would be supplying the bar!  Initially I looked on Craigslist and found a few companies that would supply the bar, bartender, ice, ect! Unfortunately the price just didn't fit into our budget.  Mr. Peacock and myself both enjoy a few beverages, and both worked in restaurants for quite a few years.  You would think this would be an easy process?  Not so much!
How do you know how much to buy?  How do you know who will drink beer, and who will drink hard liquor?  What about wine?  Should we have a keg?  Will it get drank?  Oy! There are apparently a few different sites like  http://evite.com or http://thealcoholcalculator.com that you are able to put in the number of guests that are drinking what and it will tell you what to buy.  This would be a fabulous tool if I KNEW what all my guests drank!
Did you supply your own bar?  How did you decide how much to buy?  Did you do a specialty drink?

  • I think I lost my......

Like most all brides I want to look my very best for our wedding day.  Pre-engagement I had started training for a half-marathon.  This had always been one of my life goals.  I did all the research, and got the training schedule, and did my very best to stick to it!  Training officially began on October 15th, 2009, and I finished my half marathon in just over 3 hours on February 14th (yes Valentines Day) 2010!  This alone was a pretty big feat because three weeks prior to the race I had almost debilitating pain in my right hip, and I couldn't train for those last few weeks.  I'm not one to drop out at the last minute, and I was determined to finish what I had started.  So even though it took me longer than I would have liked, I achieved this goal!
Here's me and Mr. Peacock at the finish line! I love the color of my metal!!! If you can't tell I have a huge bite of that rice krispy treat in my mouth and am trying to smile in spite of it!
While it was a great jump start to my weigh loss/ body make over, obviously I have a ways to go!  Two weeks after the half-marathon I got the P90X tapes and started weight training.  While I was seeing some muscle results, the scale just would not budge!!!
I lulled along at this pace for about two months!  I feel stronger, but really want to vamp up my work outs!  I'm back on the cardio for an hour a day, with supplements of the weight lifting as well!
What are you doing to get back in shape?  did you hit a plateau in your journey?  How did you get over it?

  • We all scream for Ice Cream!!!

Mr. Peacock and I were having a semi brain storming session last night when the topic of our desert bar came up.  As neither of us really are all impressed or excited about having a wedding cake we had latched on to the very trendy desert bar idea!  Me wanting to save $$ and him wanting to well.... I guess to just please me I think!  I started talking about how my mom and sisters and myself would probably be making some of the items for the desert bar the Thursday before the wedding.  Mr. Peacock has been very against this from the very beginning and says I shouldn't be tied up with those things so close to the wedding day.  While I generally agree with him, I also refuse to pay $5 for 5 brownies.
Suddenly I suggested getting a soft serve ice cream machine instead.  I mean who doesn't LOVE ice cream?  We could have toppings and chocolate syrup...

Who doesn't love chocolate syrup?  When I told Mama Peacock about the idea she didn't sound very excited.  Which made me second guess our idea!   However about 20 minutes later she called back and relayed this message from Daddy Peacock "if we're having ice cream then we don't need food right?"   While I'm sure our wedding guests would love to have an ice cream only reception I think that Mr. Peacock is rather excited about our Italian menu!
So, we seem to have been lured in by this cool sweet treat!
While I'm sure this is something that isn't unique to our wedding, it certainly doesn't seem to be splashed all over everything like the desert bar was!
What are your favorite ice cream toppings?  Does icecream have the same lure for you that it does for us?  What other unique things have you done for your special day?

  • Take your map and GO!

One of my recent obsessions is making a bag for my out of town guests.  I feel that if my friends and family spent the time and money to come all the way here that they should be treated extra special.  I also know that for many of them this may be the only time they get an opportunity to enjoy the beauty of the desert!  Since our house is not near big enough for them to all stay here and let the Peacocks play host I am doing my best to play host from afar.
Any google search for oot bags will render you a slew of ideas.  I know that when I go to a new place I want to explore and enjoy it!  So started the search for area maps.   Mr. Peacock works in a AAA store about once a month with his job schedule, so I asked him if he would be able to pick up a few maps.  The very next day he came home with these beauties!
I Love them, but am concerned that some of our guests are only going to be able to come for the weekend, and therefore certainly wouldn't be able to make it to the far reaching corners of the wonderful state of Arizona.
I thought it best to have maps and ideas for the immediate area around where the wedding is being held.  Today I wandered into my local Chamber of commerce that had a sign "Tourist Info" on the front of the building.  What is one to expect when they walk into a place like that?
A very helpful worker asked if she could help me find anything.  To the left part of the reception area was a whole slew of brochures.   Yes, much like the stands set up in a lot of hotels!  While I enjoy the idea of these, I am always leery of the ones advertising "real Western Shootout" and such.  There weren't any such fliers here! I told the woman that I was looking for maps, and ideas for my guests for my wedding, she helped me count out the maps, and then she said "I'll be right back" when she returned she had a stack of maps of the four cities surrounding the wedding venue!  I could list all the wonders I gained today, but instead I'll just put up the pictures!  By the looks of things, I am apparently opening and flier shop of own soon!!!  The bonus is that all the maps and brochures were priced just right!  FREE!!!!!

What did you include in your out of town bags?  Did you find anything free that was a hit?

  • Bolero oooooh!

Today as I was doing my p90x and working on toning and tightening my arms and shoulders for my beautiful strapless dress, I started thinking..... "what if I just cover them up?"
A quick glance at any wedding website or magazine will reveal a trend in weddings of the bolero or half jacket...  I have never been enticed by these jackets because of the size of my uhhhhh girls.  They never seem to fit right over my shoulders and I am always out of proportion when I try them on.   Not that I don't LOVE the cuteness factor of them, but what purpose does a half jacket have????

Enter outdoor November wedding with wildly fluctuating temperatures.  The "desert" has an average temperature on our wedding day of 80.   Which would be ideal, but last year it was almost 95 in November, and the year before it was 70.  Sigh!  To compound the problem is that once the sun goes down, so does the temperature.  With no humidity to hold it in, there could easily be a 20 - 30 degree temp change from our ceremony to the reception!  We are set with the heat lamps if needed, but I the ever tempted bride wonder..... "bolero???"
It was ruled out of the ceremony many moons ago. I know the sun will be up for that portion of the wedding festivities, but once the sun goes down how is a girl dressed all in white to stay warm?  I could of course have Mr. Peacock as my personal heater, but that doesn't sound nearly as practical as a half jacket... Right?
Mr. Peacock is on board, so now the question becomes, color or no color????  As mentioned in  the shoes blog I am changing into beautiful teal shoes for the reception, soooooo should I match my bolero to that???  or go with a simple white?

How did you decide on all the pieces of your wedding day attire?  Did the weather affect your decision?
*note, I am unable to upload any wonderful pics as xanga's site is experiencing problems, I will upload when available!
